Rev Limiter

The redline is set by the weakest component. A soft limit leans the engine out by starving fuel; a hard limit is the damage threshold beyond it.

What it is

The engine's redline isn't a single chosen number — it's the lowest maximum RPM among all the components (crank, rods, pistons, valvetrain, and so on). The weakest link sets the ceiling.

Engone enforces it in two stages:

  • Soft limit — as RPM approaches redline, the ECU starves fuel (via the injectors), leaning the engine so it can't pull past. A gentle, protective cap.
  • Hard limit — push beyond the components' actual limits and you reach the damage threshold: things like valve float and mechanical failure. This is the real, destructive boundary.

Why it matters

The soft limit keeps you from over-revving in normal use without an abrupt cut. The hard limit is the consequence of ignoring physics: components have real RPM ceilings, and exceeding them breaks the engine. Upgrading the redline means upgrading whichever part is currently the weakest link.

How to tune it

To raise the redline, identify the limiting component and upgrade it — there's no software override for a part's mechanical limit. Make sure the injectors aren't also maxing out below your intended redline, or you'll hit a fuel-driven soft limit first.

Watch out

A soft-limit lean-out near redline can look like an injector or fuelling problem. Check whether you're simply at the rev limit before chasing a phantom fuel issue — and never lean on the hard limit, which means damage.
